AUTHOR VISITS

There’s nothing I love more than meeting young readers and writers!

As a former teacher with over ten years experience in both mainstream schooling and special education (autism and emotional & behavioral), I am comfortable and confident talking and working with readers of all ages.

My visits can take the form of talks or workshops - all include interaction with the audience. Talks are generally around the theme of 'Tips for Writing', but can be tailored to specific needs. Recent examples include 'Writing Science Fiction', 'Developing Characters in Your Writing', 'Diversity in Writing', 'Story Structure', 'Get Inspired To Write!'.

I also offer Skype visits. Please contact me for further information.

In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about any of the above, or if you have any other queries, please contact me at mmv@mmvaughan.com

TESTIMONIALS

We were so very lucky and honored to have M.M. Vaughan visit and speak at our Middle School in May, 2013. Being in the education field for over 20 years, I have witnessed countless presenters. Some are better than others, but I have NEVER experienced a better speaker than Monica Vaughan...and what an experience! She not only engaged the students, but the STAFF as well!

We have about one thousand 11 and 12 year olds in our school of varying learning abilities, with class periods lasting forty minutes. She was able to seamlessly capture the undivided attention of one hundred twenty-five 6th and 7th Graders at a time for 11 periods ..and you could hear a pin drop! The presentation flowed effortlessly from her own fascinating childhood stories and power point display to the discussion of her book, The Ability, and tips on writing/becoming an author. The students were 100 % engaged and their behavior was stellar, which was a reflection on how wonderful a job that Monica did in peaking their interest at every corner.

After her presentation, there was a LINE of students that wanted to talk with her about writing! Yes, they not only wanted to read her book, but they wanted to WRITE! We were sold out of the books that we had pre-ordered by homeroom time of the next morning. It was the most books that we have EVER sold by a visiting author.

Monica’s passion and energy gets everyone excited about reading and writing. It’s so contagious that teachers are using her book, The Ability, in their lesson plans as an incoming read for students in the Fall of this year.

Our school has formed a special connection with M. M. Vaughan, and we literally can’t wait to have her visit next year to speak about her books and INSPIRE us again! M. M. Vaughan is simply an amazing author, speaker, teacher, and person.

The children were spellbound. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them sit so still and be so engaged for such a long period of time. If it hadn’t been for the bell, I think they could have stayed listening to you answer their questions all day! You have a very special way of dealing with children - many of them are very reluctant to engage with people they don’t know. I think they probably felt, as all the staff did, that you were more like an old friend that we just hadn’t met yet! We look forward to Skyping with you next month. And thank you again.

Thank you so much for your wonderfully engaging talk yesterday. I think we all came out buzzing with enthusiasm to get writing, and armed with a truckload of tips to help us! Please do come and visit again soon - we would be thrilled to have you back!

What a fantastic night! The children loved the pizza, and they loved you even more! You now have some diehard fans here in Houston who are very much hoping you be coming back to Texas very soon.
